There
are many children who have never known the thrill and anticipation
of the Christmas holiday and the excitement that Christmas morning
brings. BEARing
Gifts is able to create Christmas memories for thousands of
these children served by Children’s Protective Services (CPS)
through the generosity and support of the Houston community.
BEARing
Gifts
is the Christmas project of BEAR…BE
A Resource for CPS Kids, a non-profit public/private sector
partnership that supports CPS. All contributions go directly to benefit abused and neglected
children of Harris County.
BEAR
will
provide a card (or cards) with a CPS child’s name, age and wishes
to anyone interested in supporting BEARing
Gifts. An
individual or group makes the requested gift purchases and brings
them to the Christmas warehouse.
BEARing Gifts is
also one of the recipients of Bank One’s Spirit of Christmas
program. Bank One
places gift request cards for our CPS kids in each of its bank
lobbies. Anyone in the community may select a card, make the requested
gift purchases, and return the gifts to Bank One. Trucks pick up the gifts from Bank One and deliver them to
the Christmas warehouse located near Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Contributors may also make cash donations that BEAR
will use to fill gift requests.
BEARing
Gifts
volunteers sort and organize the gifts for distribution.

In
2001, BEARing Gifts
provided more than 10,000 Christmas gifts for 5,400 CPS children who
would not have had Christmas without this program.
