Strengthening the lives
 of our youth

Vision for the CYD Program

The vision for the 77506 area is to coordinate, advocate for, and attain resources as needed to improve community safety image and the quality of life for children, youth and families in the North Pasadena community. The intent is to provide a community which supports and strengthens its youth by supporting and strengthening the family in a collaborative effort to maximize educational and recreational activities for the community, regardless of social class, ethnicity, educational attainment, language preference or relationship to any other factor commonly associated with a varying level of risk for crime. If the youth and families are nurtured, the risk of anti-social behavior will be reduced.

Program Description

In 1995, the 74th Legislature approved funds for the creation and implementation of the Community Youth Development (CYD) Program. Communities identified as needing special attention to address the conditions that lead to juvenile crime were identified as target areas for youth to receive CYD services. Services are provided to youth 17 years of age and under who reside or attend school in the 77506 ZIP code and to family members of eligible youth. There are no income eligibility requirements to receive services, participation is completely voluntary and all services are offered free of charge. The CYD program is made up of a steering committee, fiscal agent, youth advisory committee and project coordinator. Currently, six programs make up the Pasadena 77506 CYD program.
