A.
To all
Harris County children and youth in need
Kinder
Emergency Shelter -
Youth, ages 12 to 17, who need to be separated from threatening
home situations are given temporary residence at the Kinder Emergency Shelter. During the youth’s stay at
the Kinder Emergency Shelter, caseworkers
help them to resolve their immediate crisis and counsels the
families so that the youth may return home.
Preparation
For Adult Living Program (PAL) - The
Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) program ensures that older
youth in substitute care are prepared for their inevitable
departure from foster care. After aging out of foster care
at age 18 or older, youth may receive After Care benefits to
help them transition into adulthood.
Community Youth Services
Program (CYS) -
Community Youth Services is a team effort between HCPS, 18
contracting school districts throughout Harris County and one
law enforcement agency. The goal of this program is to prevent
at-risk youth from becoming victims of child abuse, running
away, dropping out of school or from entering into delinquent
behavior.
TRIAD
Prevention Program – Program that
serves at-risk-youth (ages 10-17). Juveniles apprehended by law
enforcement for status offenses, Class C misdemeanors and public
services are served by this program.
Harris
County Systems of Hope (HCSOH) is
a component of the National Systems of Care (SOC) initiative, serving
youth and families experiencing mental health challenges. HCSOH
uses the wraparound process to develop individualized plans of care
which promote SOC philosophy: child centered and family driven, youth
guided, community based, culturally and linguistically competent.
HCSOH works with youth ages 6 to 15 (at referral), have a mental
health diagnosis (Axis I) and reside in
Harris
County
.

BEAR-BE
A Resource for CPS Kids
– BE a Resource for CPS Kids is a nonprofit community
organization that sponsors programs to support the work of Children’s
Protective Services in Harris County.
The
Children’s Crisis Care Center -
This multidisciplinary assessment center, located at 2525 Murworth in
Houston, Texas, is a partnership between public and private
organizations aimed at improving and enhancing services to abused and
neglected children and their families in Harris County. This
service is only available to children referred by DFPS.
Medical and Dental Clinic
to Children
- The Harris County Protective
Services Medical and Dental Clinic services are only available to
children referred by HCPS or DFPS.
Other Programs -
Harris County provides funding for clothing, school supplies and
medical and dental services for foster children and for children in
residential placements. These services are only available to
children referred by DFPS.
Residential Services
- Harris County
Protective Services strives to assure that residential treatment for
youth is available at the local level so that family contact can be maintained when
appropriate.

Services to Staff
Training Institute
-
Through Harris County Protective Services and the Texas Department
of Family and Protective Services, the Region 6 Training
Institute provides a specialized training program focused on
enhancement of knowledge and skills needed to reduce risk to
children who are victims of abuse and neglect.
